Celebrating My Local Valentines

I Love Yorba Linda’s Effective Law Enforcement

Orange County residents have a reason to become a little complacent about their safety, with so many cities within county borders ranking very high in safety for their size.  But behind every safe city is a well trained team of law enforcement professionals.  Yorba Linda is served by the renowned Orange County Sheriff, whose very disciplined and cooperative approach to public safety is something I will never take for granted.  Yesterday, Valentine’s Day, 2013, I raised a toast to the men and women who keep our amazing city safe; my family and I love you all and can’t thank you enough!

As the 13^th city in Orange County to contract law enforcement with the Orange County Sheriff, Yorba Linda enjoys the experience of a peace keeping juggernaut with over 123 years of history.  Part of what makes the Sheriff’s Department so effective is its commitment to cooperation and interaction with the community.  Any problems, issues or concerns brought to the attention of the Sheriff are addressed quickly, deliberately and transparently (note the ‘More Accountability’ section of the Sheriff’s Pledge found on http://www.protectyorbalinda.org/sheriffsproposal.htm ).  A variety of services are available for Yorba Linda residents and businesses, all only a phone call away.

Of particular interest for those planning to make their home in Yorba Linda, and one of my central reasons for making the Sheriff’s Department my collective Valentine, is the Sheriff’s community-centric ‘Vacation Check Services’ which effectively allow for additional police presence around your home should you and your family be away for an extended period.  The service is very thorough, including all information of who has or does not have permission to be around your home.  Additionally, all information provided to the Sheriff will be kept absolutely private strictly for the protection of your home.  For more information regarding the Vacation Check Services, see http://www.ci.yorba-linda.ca.us/images/stories/pdf/Sheriff/Vacation_Check1.pdf or contact Yorba Linda Police Services at 714 779-7098.

Yorba Linda's Mustangs

Yorba Linda High School, home of the "Mustangs" is in its fourth year.  It's hard to believe this incredible new fixture in the Placentia - Yorba Linda school district has already been serving the Yorba Linda community for four years.  As long time supporter and mother of two superstars of the school district, I can add the arrival of the Yorba Linda High School as one of the countless reasons to establish a home in Yorba Linda.

What many outside the Placentia - Yorba Linda school district do not know is the extent of school choice given to the residents of the school district.  Each high school in the district has areas of specialty in their educational program, and parents are encouraged to send their kids to the school which best fits their child's interest.  Yorba Linda High School, as an example, has specific programs to develop students interested in the culinary and hospitality industries among other special programs. While most school districts across the country, and certainly within Orange County, follow relatively rigid geographical placement for their students, parents of Yorba Linda high school students are given a flexibility now made even more diverse by the arrival of Yorba Linda High School in 2009.

The benefits of being a Yorba Linda family are almost too numerous to count due to the sheer number of community resources made available to residents of Yorba Linda, but the dynamic new high school is one of the main attractions.  The commitment to the students and community of Yorba Linda is made clear in the high school's mission statement emphasizing Service, Teamwork, Achievement, Mastery, Passion, Ethics, Dedication, and Excellence.  On February 6th, 2013, a group of Yorba Linda High School participated in a signing ceremony celebrating their signing with colleges due to their athletic as well as academic skills.  In its short history, Yorba Linda High School has already developed a strong reputation of cultivating academics and athletics and aiming its students solidly toward college and professional life.
